English original of "Jidai no Kaze" column published in Mainichi Shimbun of February 27th, with an addendum on the implications of Russia's invasion and the hardening Western response
Thank you, Bill, as insightful as ever. I suppose the West will start planning how best to achieve a regime change in Russia, by supporting/funding/arming domestic groups opposed to Putin and his administration and by covertly seeking ways of taking him out. Incapacitating or eliminating Putin could be a quick fix but when one thinks of the size of Russia's nuclear arsenal, the West would have to think hard about when and how to execute such a plan, as one crazed dictator could easily be succeeded by another....
Thank you for your stabilizing assessment of the present situation with Russia. Yet it feels, somehow, unsafe to say what would seem to be the better part of wisdom, as to how to deal with Putin. But one can only hope the Russian people are against this war and will make their voices heard, right now!
